Welcome to Success in Reading!

  1. Where do you offer your lessons?  My lessons are done virtually and are conveniently held on Zoom.
  2. Is online learning effective?  Yes, it is very effective! In fact, many children do better online than in-person because the teaching tools I use are dynamic, engaging, fun, and really keep their attention. I've been successful with teaching online to special needs children as young as 2 years old!
  3. What is your onboarding process? There are 4 easy steps:
    1. Schedule your child's free reading assessment here
    2. Consult with me afterwards to discuss my observations, your child's learning plan, and set a schedule for lessons
    3. Receive and review your Family Welcome Packet and sign the Client Agreement
    4. Your child will begin taking lessons!
  4. What ages do you teach?  I teach early literacy skills to children under 5 all the way to grade 12. I also teach adults.
  5. Do you teach 1:1 or group classes?  I currently offer 1:1 classes, however, I am working towards offering group classes of 3 to 4 students because it can be very motivating for most children to learn along with children who can relate to their struggles. It also allows me to reach more students in a day, considering lessons are held during after school hours.
  6. What are your rates?  My rate for a 1:1 full 1 hour session is currently $60. Sessions for 30 minutes are $30  (recommended for students 5 or younger). Groups of 3 students are $35 per student for 1 full hour. Groups of 4 students are $25 per student for 1 full hour.  (Note: I normally give students a 5-7 minute break to reset). All sales are final.
  7. Is there a registration fee?  There is no fee to register!
  8. Do you sell packages or can I pay per lesson?  Since lessons don't necessarily have a definitive date to come to an end, like taking classes for the SATs, you can pay per lesson! I pre-schedule students lessons so they repeat on my calendar how ever many times they take lessons per month. All payments are pre-paid on autopay via TutorBird using your bank card or credit card. More detailed information about my policies and how everything works is in the Family Welcome Packet you will receive when you onboard.
  9. How do you group students together? Are they all in the same grade?  I group students according to skill level, not age. A 1:1 free reading assessment will allow me to determine the pain points each child has so that I can decide how to group them or if they will be better off with 1:1 lessons. For instance, a 3rd grader and a 5th grader may share the same deficit such as phonemic awareness. Both children would be taught the same skills so in this case, age and grade level would not be a factor.
  10. How long will my child need to work with you?  That all depends on factors such as how many skills they need to improve, how much effort they put into the process, how many sessions they take every week, and how much reinforcement they receive outside of our session time. Most students take at least 2 lessons a week usually with one day in between. I will let you know how many lessons a week I think would be best for them and you can decide from there.
